Build hope

Ryan Moore, Builders International Director

"We are launching a new project and I am very excited about this work! This project will make a huge impact, as we come alongside our national church and missionary partners working in Suriname. The only thing missing in this fantastic ministry is A PLACE for the abused and homeless children of Suriname to find safety, and A PLACE for the Arawaks, an unreached people group, to find hope. That’s where you come in!"
the Facts
Many young children in the village of Whit-Sande, Suriname, become addicted to alcohol as a way to cope with abuse, incest, and extreme poverty. The Whit-Sande Ministry Center will provide a safe place for them to recover, as well as minister to the unreached Arawak people.
the DESCRIPTION
The Whit-Sande Ministry Center will provide a place for the people in this area of Suriname to assemble for church. They currently meet outside in a church member's yard. It will also function as a conference center, a community feeding center, and a children’s rescue center for the many impoverished children affected by homelessness, abuse, and incest in this area.
the BENEFITS
This building will serve to reach the heavily oppressed, from infancy to elderly, living in an area of complete darkness. Their future is hopeless without the message of the gospel. The Whit-Sande Ministry Center will help reach the many cultures in the area, including the indigenous Arawak people.
"In an area of complete darkness…children are exposed to drugs and alcohol from infancy."
- Steve Puffpaff, Missionary
In an area of complete darkness, Whit-Sande, Suriname, faces...
  • Extreme poverty...70% of the population falls under the poverty line
  • Drug addiction...on a large scale
  • Alcoholism...even runs rampant among children
  • Sexual abuse...including incest
  • Witchcraft...practiced among Arawak people
Meet the Pastors - Henkie and Judith Singosemito!
Henkie was raised in a Muslim family. He had a very sickly and unhealthy childhood. As he grew into his teenage years, he was convinced he wouldn’t live a very long life, so he decided to live what years he had left wildly.

His brother, also a Muslim, visited an Assemblies of God church as a teenager and received salvation. Henkie saw a drastic change in his brother, who suddenly had joy and happiness. His brother invited him to church, so out of curiosity, he went. Henkie gave his heart to Jesus! He suddenly began experiencing health, happiness, and a fullness of life he had never known before. He realized he wasn’t going to die young and he had a long life ahead of him.

His childhood sweetheart, Judith, was a Muslim too. She went to church with him and also accepted Jesus! Henkie and Judith got married. Soon after marriage, they felt God calling them to start a church and pastor. Their first church began on a friend’s veranda. It grew quickly.
He is now lovingly known as Pastor Henkie! The Lord has anointed them to reach Amerindians, particularly the Arawaks. This people group is steeped in witchcraft. Pastor Henkie’s church is gifted with a special deliverance ministry. God is using that gift to deliver people, including this unreached people group, from demonic possession.

Today, their church is reaching three Arawak villages. Whit-Sande is one of the villages. Whit Sande is teeming with social issues...extreme poverty, drug addiction, and alcoholism on a large scale. Alcoholism even runs rampant among children. Many children do not attend school. Sexual abuse, including incest, is widespread in this area of Suriname.

God spoke to Pastor Henkie and Judith to build a church in the heart of this village! The church will be a ministry center that will feed people, pray for people, counsel people, as well as a rescue center for homeless children and children that need a safe place.

Pastor Henkie has a degree in mechanics and his wife, Judith, has a degree in elementary education. They both studied ministry at the Caribbean School of Theology.

The Whit-Sande Ministry Center will serve as a:

  • Church
  • Conference Center
  • Community Feeding Center
  • Children's Rescue Center

This ministry center will feed people physically and spiritually. It will be a place where people can receive prayer and counsel. It will also be a place where children can find a safe place to escape homelessness and abuse.

Meet the Missionaries - Steve and Kim Puffpaff!
The Puffpaffs have served as missionaries in the Caribbean region for thirty years. They spent twenty-five years in Jamaica, planting churches, starting a Teen Challenge, and establishing the City of Refuge Children’s Home. For the past seven years, they have worked with Caribbean School of Theology, training and mentoring leaders in eight different countries throughout the Caribbean.

The Puffpaffs are currently working in the country of Suriname, which is located on the Northeast coast of South America, near Brazil.
Forty percent of Suriname’s population are either Hindu or Muslim. There are sixteen unreached people groups living in the interior of Suriname. Steve and Kim are involved in planting churches across the entire country. Their passion is to reach every unreached group of people with the gospel.

Steve earned a doctoral degree in Applied Intercultural Studies from Assemblies of God Theological Seminary.

The Puffpaffs were pastors in the state of Michigan for twelve years before becoming missionaries. They have three grown children and six grandchildren.

I want to follow the Whit-Sande Ministry Center, which will:

  • Feed people
  • Pray for people
  • Counsel people

In addition to feeding people, praying for people, and counseling people, Whit-Sande Ministry Center will provide a safe place for homeless children and restore children who are victims of homelessness, alcoholism, drug addiction, abuse, and incest.
